Post  mrthought on Sat Jan 08, 2011 5:45 am

Aromatherapy is a type of alternative medicine that uses different plant materials in the form of essential oils, and other aromatic compounds for the purpose of altering a person’s mood, cognitive function or health and perhaps soothes the mind too.

Aromatherapy had been around for 6000 years or more. The Greeks, Romans, and ancient Egyptians used aromatherapy oils. The Egyptian physician Imhotep recommended fragrant oils for bathing, massage and for embalming their dead nearly 6000 years ago. Imhotep is the Egyptian god of medicine and healing. Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, used aromatherapy baths and scented massage. He used aromatic fumigation to rid Athens of the plague.

The modern era of aromatherapy is said to have dawned in 1930 when the French chemist Rene Maurice Gattefosse coined the term aromatherapy for the therapeutic use of essential oils. He was fascinated by the benefits of lavender oil in healing his burned hand without leaving any scars. He started investigating the effect of other essential oils for healing and for their psychotherapeutic benefits.

Essential oils, the pure essence of a plant, have been found to provide both psychological and physical benefits when used correctly and safely. The inhaled aroma from these essential oils is widely believed to stimulate brain function. Essential oils can also be absorbed through the skin, where they travel through the bloodstream and can promote whole-body healing.

Stress Less by Aroma is a combination of ocean bath salts with a blend of Lavender, Chamomile and Sage. This preparation has the capacity to calm worries, relieve anxiety and generate a sense of well-being. This lotion is deeply penetrating and is designed to help you unwind and rebalance the body’s energy flow.

Muscle soak by Aroma is a foaming bubble bath which is highly recommended for Athletes. This blend is known to ease tensions, soothe muscles and restore flexibility. The composition in this bubble bath encourages blood circulation. The recommended use of this product is during the day.

Since some essential oils from tea tree have demonstrated anti-microbial effects, it has been suggested that they may be useful for the treatment of infectious diseases. Though evidence for the efficacy of aromatherapy in treating medical conditions remains poor, however some evidence exists that essential oils may have therapeutic potential.

Sinus Help by Aroma comes in the form of inhaling beads that are a blend of Eucalyptus, peppermint and lemon grass. This mixture works as a natural relief to stuffiness in the nose and restores breathing.
