The second lowest increase since council tax was introduced. The combined Greater London Authority precept freeze and Bromley element increase of 2.7%, mean Bromley residents are likely to continue to benefit from having the lowest council tax in outer London (if you ignore Newham) next year.
In recommending the budget, Councillor Stephen Carr, Leader of the Council, said:
“This is a budget that represents value for money in the current economic climate, while continuing to reflect what residents have told us matters most to them. Despite ongoing under funding by central government, prudent management of our resources means that we are able to continue to invest in Building a Better Bromley. We have set aside no less than £1m to tackle issues that local people have said are important to them; this is in addition to the usual services we provide. But with no end in sight to the financial pressures we face, we cannot be complacent so we have also set aside a significant sum to see us through a year of uncertainty. We’ll continue to drive through money saving efficiencies, campaign for a fairer funding settlement and listen to residents as we plan ahead and endeavour to keep council tax as low as possible into the future.”
