BEXLEY: Village pubs forced to close after St George's Day gets out of hand Empty BEXLEY: Village pubs forced to close after St George's Day gets out of hand

ST GEORGE'S Day celebrations in Bexley turned sour after trouble erupted in Bexley Village last night.

Bexley police had to call in extra officers from the Territorial Support Group, surrounding boroughs, the police dog unit and the Met Police helicopter to try and quell the trouble.

All the pubs in Bexley Village, which recently formed a Pub Safe group, voluntarily closed for the night.

So did some pubs in Bexleyheath and Sidcup as troublemakers tried to get drinks elsewhere.

Work Starts On Edinburgh Exhibition Centre

    Published on 05-08-2010 by Skyscrapernews.com
Work has begun on what will be the next phase of Edinburgh's International Exhibition Centre, and a deliberate attempt for it to try and rival the bigger, and more well known, Scottish Exhibition Centre in Glasgow.

Designed by BDP with MACE as the project manager, the extension to the existing drum-shaped hall features at its heart a new 1,600 square metre central hall designed to have a number of flexible uses from concerts to trade fairs. It will contain a moving floor allowing it to be reconfigured with the touch of a switch rather than the old fashioned way of having to add stands, and remove stands manually.

Next door a new office building is planned rising to a height of eight storeys with an interior atrium running through the centre of it to flood it with natural light. A second central atrium is planned on looking on to Morrison Street to maximiise the views towards the public space that is already situated there, as well as open the inside of the building up to it. At the same time the upper two floors of this elevation step back reducing the vertical impact of the building and providing outdoor space for tenants.

The floor-plates will be arranged around this atrium in the manner of a horseshoe, albeit with right angles to provide a more efficient use of space. Each floor will have about 1,000 square metres of space on it, however these will easily be split up into two allowing multi tenanted use on each level.

Whilst the office building has yet to start on site, the expansion of the conference centre will cost £85 million and be completed in early 2013.
